Art therapy in the paediatric ward
Chronic, psychosomatic and psychological disorders, behavioural disorders, surgical interventions and eating disorders

Art therapy was introduced in the Regionalspital Lugano in 2005 and is now a fixed part of the interdisciplinary treatment offer. Two therapists now take care of in-patient and partially out-patient children and adolescents. Sessions take place individually or in groups, usually supplementing other therapies. The art-therapy approach is firmly integrated in care for people with severe eating disorders.

In the "Schema corporeo" programme, patients receive an art therapy session before and after surgery. This way, their fears of the intervention can be caught and reduced. In early 2017, the art therapist also started working with dysgraphia patients.
